The scenic valleys of Naran and Kaghan have been temporarily closed to tourists due to heavy snowfall, which has brought temperatures down to freezing levels, according to ARY News.
Reports indicate that snowfall, especially near Babusar Top, has created hazardous travel conditions. In response, the district administration has advised against visiting these areas to ensure public safety.
Deputy Commissioner Manshera, Khalid Iqbal, confirmed that routes leading to Kaghan Valley have been blocked since early November due to snow. Additional closures have since been implemented, further limiting access.
Tourists attempting to visit the area face significant challenges, including extreme weather conditions and road closures. The primary route connecting Gilgit-Baltistan to Kaghan has also been shut down, compounding the restrictions.
Adding to the difficulties, hotels in Naran and surrounding areas have closed for the season, and essential services like electricity remain disrupted. The blocked routes have effectively brought Naran’s six-month-long tourism season to an end.
Despite these restrictions, areas like Balakot and Shogran remain open and accessible for tourists. The district administration has encouraged visitors to consider these alternatives, where travel remains safe and pathways are clear.
DC Khalid Iqbal highlighted the untapped potential of winter tourism in regions like Naran and Kaghan, urging the government to invest in infrastructure and initiatives that could boost the local economy and provide sustainable employment for residents.
While the snowfall has enhanced the region’s natural beauty, the lack of infrastructure for winter tourism remains a challenge, further underscored by the ongoing access restrictions.
