RAWALPINDI: Siddiqui Farooq, a senior leader of the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), passed away on Sunday after a prolonged battle with illness.
Family sources revealed that the seasoned politician had been suffering from heart disease.
Throughout his political career, Farooq held significant roles, including serving as press secretary to three-time Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and as PML-N’s information secretary. He also chaired the Evacuee Trust Property Board (ETPB) and the House Building Finance Corporation.
Farooq’s funeral prayers will be held at the H-11 cemetery in Islamabad at 11 am on Monday.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed deep sorrow over the passing of the PML-N leader, offering condolences to his family. The prime minister praised Farooq’s contributions to the party, calling him a dedicated politician whose services would always be remembered.
PML-N Senator Irfan Siddiqui also paid tribute to Farooq, describing him as a man of strong principles and unwavering loyalty, who displayed remarkable courage in challenging times and refused to testify against Nawaz Sharif. Siddiqui emphasized that Farooq’s contributions to democracy and his impact on journalism and politics would never be forgotten.
