KARACHI: A high-profile task force, set up to dismantle the gutka mafia, has been engulfed in controversy after three female police officers were allegedly caught stealing Rs2.6 million during a raid on a gutka manufacturing facility, as reported by ARY News.
The female constables were part of a team led by Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Abid Fazal during the raid in Orangi a day prior.
According to Karachi police officials, the raid resulted in the arrest of two suspects, Yusuf and Hussain, and the seizure of 100kg of gutka along with other materials. However, soon after the operation, the house residents filed a complaint at Orangi Police Station, accusing the officers of stealing money during the raid.
In response, police intercepted the task force members on their way back and conducted a search. During the search, one of the constables, Mahira, was found with Rs1.6 million, while another officer was carrying over 900 riyals and some dirhams. Other officers attempted to discard money to avoid detection.
The incident was immediately reported to the DIG and Additional IG, resulting in the suspension of the three female constables—Mahira, Aram, and Shazia. DSP Complaint Malir has been appointed to lead an inquiry into the matter.
This shocking revelation comes on the heels of another major police raid in October 2024, where a gutka factory in Ibrahim Hyderi, Malir, was uncovered. The factory was allegedly operating under the protection of local police, according to Task Force officials.
