Sindh Government Addresses Chinese Investor’s Grievances Against Police

KARACHI: Sindh Home Minister Ziaul Hasan Lanjar has addressed complaints lodged by Chinese investors against the Sindh police.

The investors submitted a petition in the Sindh High Court (SHC), alleging harassment and extortion by the police.

In response, the Home Minister directed the Sindh Inspector General (IG) of Police, Ghulam Nabi Memon, to initiate an inquiry and appoint a senior officer to oversee the investigation. Lanjar emphasized that the Sindh government and police are committed to ensuring the security of non-CPEC Chinese nationals under the established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

He further instructed police officials to identify and resolve any security loopholes while urging local sponsors to share details about their Chinese staff to help police conduct proper checks and enforce SOPs effectively.

Chinese investors, in their SHC petition, accused police of demanding bribes from the airport to their residences and creating hindrances in daily operations. They have made the Federal Ministry of Interior, Chief Secretary Sindh, IG Sindh Police, Chinese Consulate, and others respondents in the case.

The complainants stated they were invited to invest in Pakistan by top leadership, including Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, but continue to face persistent harassment.

Taking notice of the petition, the SHC has issued notices to all respondents, requiring them to submit their replies within four weeks..
