The Judicial Commission has approved the appointment of 10 additional judges to the Peshawar High Court (PHC).

The Judicial Commission, led by Chief Justice Yahya Afridi, has approved the appointment of 10 additional judges for the Peshawar High Court (PHC) after reviewing 40 candidates.

Among those approved are District and Sessions judges Farah Jamshed and Inamullah, along with Qazi Jawad, Mudassar Amir, Abdul Fayaz, Salahuddin, Sadiq Ali, Tariq Afridi, Sabit Ali, and Aurangzeb Khan. PHC Chief Justice Ishtiaq Ibrahim also advocated for the inclusion of a tenth judge during the meeting.

Despite opposition from Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) members, including Barrister Gohar, Ali Zafar, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Law Minister, the appointments were approved by majority vote.

In a related development, Islamabad High Court (IHC) judges expressed concerns in a letter to the president and prime minister, questioning attempts to appoint the IHC Chief Justice from other high courts. The letter recommended that one of the three senior-most IHC judges should be appointed as Chief Justice.
