ISLAMABAD: The Ministry of Law and Justice has appointed two additional judges to the Islamabad High Court (IHC) following approval from President Asif Ali Zardari.
The newly appointed judges, Muhammad Azam Khan and Inaam Ameen Minhas, will take their oaths on Monday. The oath-taking ceremony will be conducted by IHC Chief Justice Aamer Farooq at the IHC premises.
The Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP) had earlier convened two meetings on January 17. The first meeting focused on nominating additional judges for the Islamabad High Court, while the second addressed nominations for the High Court of Balochistan.
During the first meeting, the JCP, by majority decision, recommended Muhammad Azam Khan, District & Sessions Judge, and Inaam Ameen Minhas, Advocate Supreme Court, for their appointments as additional judges of the IHC.
In a separate meeting, the JCP unanimously nominated Muhammad Asif, Advocate Supreme Court, and Muhammad Ayub Khan, Advocate Supreme Court, and, by majority decision, recommended Muhammad Najam-ud-Din Mengal, Advocate Supreme Court, for the High Court of Balochistan.
The JCP also decided that nominees who did not secure the required majority this time could be reconsidered for future vacancies.
For the appointment of additional judges to the IHC, 19 names were submitted to the JCP for four vacant positions. The nominees included three District and Sessions Judges—Raja Jawad Abbas Hassan, Azam Khan, and Shahrukh Arjumand—as well as Additional Sessions Judge Humayun Dilawar.
Other candidates recommended to the JCP included Advocate General Islamabad Ayaz Shaukat, alongside advocates Adnan Basharat, Syed Qamar Hussain Sabzwari, Umar Aslam, Muhammad Usman Ghani, Rashid Cheema, Adnan Haider, Sultan Mazhar Sher Khan, Kashif Ali Malik, Daniyal Ijaz, Shahid Mahmood Khokhar, Babar Bilal, Muhammad Abdul Rafi, and Chaudhry Hafeezullah Yaqoob.
