BAHAWALPUR: A tragic incident unfolded in Basti Luniwala Adda near Shahnal on Shujabad Road, Lodhran district, where a man killed his physically challenged daughter, injured his son, and attempted to take his own life.
Muhammad Ismail, 47, attacked his 23-year-old daughter, Mussarat, who had been living with polio-related challenges since childhood, and his 25-year-old son, Khalid, using a sharp-edged knife. Mussarat succumbed to her injuries, while Ismail and Khalid were critically injured.
Rescue teams transported the injured to Bahawal Victoria Hospital (BVH) in Bahawalpur, where their condition remains serious.
Police and Rescue 1122 officials reported that a family dispute led Ismail to commit the act in a fit of rage. After realizing the severity of his actions, he attempted to take his own life.
Muhammad Safdar, media coordinator for Rescue 1122, confirmed that rescuers found Mussarat deceased upon arrival, while Ismail and Khalid were in critical condition.
Ismail’s second son, Ijaz Ahmed, revealed that his father had been battling mental health issues and was under treatment in Lodhran. He added that Ismail was also struggling to cope with the recent loss of his nephew.
Lodhran Saddar police have launched an investigation into the incident.
