Death toll in Kurram tribal clashes surpasses 100 as gunfire persists.

The ongoing tribal clashes in Kurram district, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, have now claimed 102 lives as the conflict continues into its seventh consecutive day. The death toll includes individuals injured in recent gunfire exchanges, which have followed the breakdown of a government-brokered seven-day ceasefire.

The latest casualties include one passenger who succumbed to injuries after a convoy traveling from Peshawar to Parachinar was fired upon, along with two others killed and six injured in fresh shootings. In total, 102 people have died and 138 have been injured over the past week due to the violence in the area.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi condemned the ongoing violence and confirmed the death of over 100 people. He announced plans to visit Kurram with political representatives in the coming days and to convene an all-parties conference (APC) in early December to seek a solution to restore peace.

Jamaat-e-Islami leader Asadullah Bhutto expressed grave concern about the situation, urging the Supreme Court to form a commission to investigate the matter.

The unrest began after a ceasefire arranged by the government failed to hold, despite efforts by a high-level delegation, led by Barrister Muhammad Ali Saif, to mediate between the warring factions. Kurram district remains in turmoil, with continuous reports of clashes, and over 18 hostages, including women, being held by both sides.

Local authorities report that all educational institutions and markets are closed, and key roads, including the Peshawar-Parachinar route, remain blocked. Tribal feuds, often rooted in longstanding family disputes, have been a recurrent issue in the region. Previous clashes this year have also resulted in significant casualties, with tribal councils attempting to broker ceasefires.

The violence has prompted protests in major cities, including Lahore and Karachi, while thousands gathered in Parachinar for a sit-in and attended the funerals of the latest victims.
