Domestic worker dies from torture injuries in Rawalpindi

RAWALPINDI – A young domestic worker succumbed to her injuries on Wednesday at a hospital, days after being brutally tortured by her employers in the Asghar Mall area.

According to police, the 12-year-old girl was admitted to Holy Family Hospital with severe wounds on her head, face, and arms. Authorities had earlier arrested the couple accused of torturing the child and registered a case under seven charges, including murder.

The mistreatment of domestic workers remains a prevalent issue in various parts of the country. In December 2024, a couple in Lahore’s Gulshan-e-Iqbal area was arrested for severely beating a 15-year-old maid, Mehwish, and burning her with an iron. The victim also accused the house owner’s son, Abdullah, of harassment.

Similarly, a college professor in Lahore was detained for allegedly torturing another 15-year-old maid, Fiza. She was hospitalized in critical condition after reportedly being abused by her employer, Prof. Salman, in the Defence area.
