Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, the Speaker of the National Assembly, has scheduled a meeting between the government and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) negotiation committees for Thursday at 11:30 am in Parliament.
A statement from the speaker’s office confirms that the meeting will take place in Committee Room 5 and will be conducted behind closed doors. PTI is expected to present its formal demands during the session.
The meeting date has been changed from January 15 to January 16 following requests from committee members, with Speaker Ayaz Sadiq stating that the revision was made after consultations with both sides.
Sources indicate that contact between the government and PTI resumed recently. Former Speaker Asad Qaiser is said to have discussed the negotiation process with Ayaz Sadiq over the phone and agreed on the date for the meeting.
This will be the first formal interaction between PTI representatives and the speaker after talks with PTI leadership, including party founder Imran Khan. The speaker also facilitated a meeting between PTI’s delegation and Imran Khan at Adiala Jail to discuss negotiation strategies.
PTI’s committee spokesperson, Sahibzada Hamid Raza, reiterated that the party demands a judicial inquiry into the May 9 and November 26 incidents. “We have given the government until January 31 to announce the inquiry. If this demand is not met, the negotiations may end,” he warned.
The ongoing negotiations are an attempt to address the political tensions between the two parties, following two previous rounds of talks that yielded no major breakthrough.
