Greece boat tragedy: Another case filed against FIA officials and agents

Faisalabad: Second Case Filed Against FIA Officials Over Greece Boat Tragedy

A second case has been registered against 19 Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) officials and an agent for their alleged role in illegally facilitating victims of the Greece boat tragedy to travel to Libya.

Among the arrested individuals are 16 FIA officials, including the Immigration Shift In-charge at Faisalabad Airport. However, two female officers, Sub-Inspector Shumaila and Constable Anila, implicated in the case, remain at large.

The Special Central Judge’s court in Faisalabad has ordered the jailed suspects into custody.

The case, filed by Abdullah from Pasrur, lists six charges against the accused, including Inspectors Zubair Ashraf and Sub-Inspectors Shahid Munir and Shumaila Saleem.

Reports allege FIA officials accepted bribes of one lakh rupees to clear four passengers illegally. Meanwhile, agent Khuram Jajja is accused of receiving 25 lakh rupees from Samiullah for arranging his travel to Europe. Meetings between agents and passengers allegedly took place at an airport canteen, where bribes of 25,000 rupees per passenger were demanded for immigration clearance.

Human Trafficking Network Uncovered

Previously, FIA apprehended five suspects, including a notorious human trafficker, in connection with the tragedy. The operations, conducted in Gujrat, Gujranwala, Sialkot, and Mandi Bahauddin, targeted individuals exploiting citizens for illegal travel.

One of the suspects, Abdul Majeed, allegedly took 4.2 million rupees from a citizen named Fahad to smuggle him to Greece. Fahad remains missing after the tragic shipwreck.

An inquiry committee investigating the Greece boat tragedy also identified the involvement of 31 FIA officials. Their names, including inspectors, sub-inspectors, and constables, have been added to the Passport Control List (PCL).
