IHC Appoints Three New Judges, Gazette Notification Released

ISLAMABAD: The Gazette notification confirming the transfer of three judges to the Islamabad High Court (IHC) has been issued after receiving approval from President Asif Ali Zardari.

As per the notification released by the Establishment Division, Justice Sardar Muhammad Sarfraz Dogar has been moved from the Lahore High Court (LHC) to the IHC.

Justice Khadim Hussain Soomro, from the Sindh High Court (SHC), has also been transferred to the IHC, along with Justice Muhammad Asif from the Balochistan High Court.

Earlier, IHC judges expressed concerns regarding the appointment of the Chief Justice (CJ) in a letter addressed to President Asif Ali Zardari and Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice Yahya Afridi.

The judges requested that the CJ of the IHC be selected from among its senior judges rather than bringing in a judge from another high court, and emphasized the need for justifying such a decision.

The letter, which was also sent to the Chief Justices of the Sindh and Lahore High Courts, was signed by several judges, including Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani.

Additionally, on January 18, the Ministry of Law and Justice appointed Muhammad Azam Khan and Inaam Ameen Minhas as additional judges of the IHC after receiving approval from President Zardari. The Judicial Commission of Pakistan held two meetings on January 17 to consider nominations for additional judges in both the Islamabad and Balochistan High Courts.
