Imran Khan Approves Talks with “Powerful Quarters” Ahead of PTI’s Critical November 24 Protest
ISLAMABAD: As Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) prepares for its high-stakes “do-or-die protest” in Islamabad on November 24, imprisoned party founder Imran Khan has authorized senior leaders to engage in discussions with “powerful quarters,” according to his lawyer, Khalid Yousaf Chaudhry.
Chaudhry revealed that PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur sought Khan’s approval during a meeting at Adiala Jail. Khan allowed the talks but limited them to addressing PTI’s key demands, including the return of what he calls the “stolen mandate.”
Aleema Khan, Imran Khan’s sister, confirmed the development outside Adiala Jail, emphasizing that the talks aim to ensure the release of jailed PTI workers and leaders, as well as the restoration of democracy. She noted that the November 24 protest could turn into a celebration if these demands are met.
Contradicting PTI’s official stance, party spokesperson Sheikh Waqas Akram earlier denied any possibility of talks with the government or establishment ahead of the planned demonstration. However, reports suggest that high-level contacts between PTI and a key government figure have already begun, with initial discussions described as positive.
Sources indicate that the government’s representative is set to brief influential stakeholders, and if progress is made, PTI may reconsider its protest plans in exchange for assurances on their demands. Meanwhile, Gandapur has stated he will raise the ongoing tensions between PTI and the military establishment in the Apex Committee.
With tensions high and negotiations underway, the November 24 protest remains a pivotal moment for Pakistan’s political landscape.
