Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founding chairman Imran Khan has expressed support for the meeting between the party’s current chairman, Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur with Chief of Army Staff General Asim Munir.
The meeting, held in Peshawar, focused on addressing critical political and security concerns, as reported by Express News.
After meeting Imran Khan at Adiala Jail, Barrister Gohar informally briefed the media, underscoring the importance of adhering to PTI founder’s directives. He clarified that any future updates on meetings would be disclosed only under Khan’s explicit instructions.
Gohar reiterated that his actions align with Khan’s guidance, describing the discussions with General Munir as a constructive step toward national stability.
He further emphasized PTI’s core demands, including the formation of a judicial commission to investigate two major incidents. “We have always kept the door open for dialogue, while others have kept theirs closed. If this dialogue progresses, it will benefit the country’s stability,” he stated.
During the meeting, both Gohar and Gandapur voiced their concerns directly to General Munir. Gohar described the discussions as yielding positive developments and hinted at potential resolutions being explored.
However, the session also witnessed tensions among Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa’s political figures. A clash erupted between CM Gandapur and Governor Faisal Karim Kundi over the allocation of Rs500 billion for counterterrorism. Gandapur accused Kundi of spreading misinformation, sparking a heated exchange.
The situation further escalated when Awami National Party (ANP) leader Aimal Wali Khan accused the provincial government of supporting Taliban elements. In response, Gandapur defended his past role in the Afghan Jihad and demanded clarity on the allegations.
Amid these conflicts, General Munir and other leaders sought to steer the discussion back to regional security concerns.
Barrister Gohar underscored the need to address security issues through Parliament, calling for a unified national approach to tackle ongoing challenges.
After the meeting, Imran Khan moved to Parliament House to meet PTI Negotiation Committee head Omar Ayub. Gohar conveyed a special message from Imran Khan to the committee.
Reports indicate that Omar Ayub is expected to hold a press conference soon to outline the next steps in the party’s negotiations.
