LONDON: A video circulating on social media shows Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif being heckled and threatened with a knife attack in London, sparking condemnation from PML-N supporters.
Sources close to the PML-N leader confirmed the authenticity of the video to Geo News, noting that it depicts the minister being verbally abused and threatened near Heathrow Airport on Tuesday by an unidentified individual who recorded the incident.
The government has reportedly taken notice, instructing the Pakistan High Commission in London to liaise with British Transport Police, calling it a serious incident requiring investigation.
Asif is currently in London on a private visit, during which he met with PML-N President Nawaz Sharif and his daughter Maryam Nawaz. Speaking to party supporters alongside Asif, Nawaz expressed regret over the incident, condemning the actions and stating that Asif is a “fighter” who has always faced challenges with resilience.
This incident is part of a recent pattern, as Pakistani officials and political figures have faced harassment in London. Last month, former Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa’s car was attacked by PTI supporters at Middle Temple. In a similar incident in August 2023, Judge Humayun Dilawar, who sentenced PTI Chairman Imran Khan in the Toshakhana case, was also followed by PTI supporters in London. PML-N figures Marriyum Aurangzeb and Hina Pervaiz Butt have faced similar harassment from PTI supporters in London as well.
