PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has revised its recruitment, promotion, and transfer rules for public sector departments, removing the son quota for job appointments.
A notification issued recently outlines changes, including the removal of Rule 10, sub-clause 4, and partial removal of clause 2, which previously provided employment opportunities to the children of government employees.
As per the new amendments, children of government workers who pass away or become disabled during service will no longer be eligible for employment under the son quota. Previously, this policy granted job opportunities to such children.
It is important to note that during the caretaker government’s period in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, from January 23, 2023, to February 29, 2024, a total of 9,762 recruitments were made. The majority, 4,019, were in the police department, followed by 192 in the municipal department and 159 in the prisons department, among others.
The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly had previously approved the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Employees Bill 2025, which allows the dismissal of government employees recruited during the caretaker government’s term.
