Motorway to stay closed for repairs in preparation for PTI Islamabad protest

ISLAMABAD: The Motorway will be closed at six points for maintenance and repair work until further notice, as announced by authorities, ARY News reported.

According to the notification, the Motorway will be shut down from Pindi Bhattian to Multan, Peshawar to Islamabad, and Lahore to Islamabad starting at 8 PM tonight, as confirmed by Motorway Police.

The closure is part of ongoing repair efforts.

Earlier today, the Punjab government imposed Section 144 across the province in anticipation of the PTI protest in Islamabad on November 24.

As per the directive, public gatherings and rallies are banned for three days, from Saturday, November 23 to Monday, November 25.

This follows a call by PTI founder Imran Khan, currently incarcerated, for nationwide protests on November 24.

In another development, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) set forth conditions for negotiations to call off the protest.

PTI requested immediate relief for Imran Khan and other party leaders, offering to cancel the protest if their demands are met. This includes quashing all “fabricated” charges against Khan and his release, with a suggestion to transfer him to Peshawar Jail if legal proceedings delay his release.

The party also called for the release of other imprisoned leaders. Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Ali Amin Gandapur stated that talks would only proceed after Khan’s release.

Meanwhile, mobile and internet services in various parts of Pakistan, especially in Islamabad and Punjab, may be suspended due to the PTI protest on November 24.

Sources indicated that mobile internet services could be disrupted starting November 22, with firewalls possibly activated to slow down speeds and affect social media apps. Additionally, internet and mobile services may be selectively blocked depending on the situation.
