MWM ends Karachi sit-ins protesting Kurram violence following peace agreement.

KARACHI: The Muttahida Wasiat-e-Mahdi (MWM) has ended its nationwide sit-ins, including those in Karachi and Islamabad, which were organized to protest violence in Kurram, ARY News reported.

During a press conference in Karachi, MWM Chief Allama Raja Nasir Abbas announced the decision following successful negotiations between Kurram tribes, culminating in a peace agreement during Kohat’s Grand Jirga. He urged for the immediate implementation of the agreement’s terms and assured that protesters would disperse peacefully.

The peace deal was finalized after the three-week-long Grand Jirga successfully addressed concerns. Malik Sawab Khan, a Jirga member, stated that most issues had been resolved and the agreement would soon be announced at the Peshawar Governor House.

Jirga members emphasized that both parties are obligated to abide by the Apex Committee’s decisions. Delays in finalizing the agreement were attributed to the absence of certain members. A 16-member oversight committee will be formed to ensure implementation, alongside a government-supervised plan for weapon collection.

Sindh government issues warning

Earlier, the Sindh government warned MWM protesters to vacate blocked roads in Karachi or face action. Provincial Interior Minister Zia Ul Hassan Lanjar stated that blocking roads was unacceptable and urged protesters to demonstrate on sidewalks. He added that 300 unidentified individuals had been booked under an FIR in Soldier Bazaar.
