Naqvi warns of curfew, army deployment, and extreme measures if red line is crossed.

During a late-night press conference in Islamabad, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi cautioned that the government would resort to imposing a curfew, invoking Article 245 to seek military assistance, or taking other extreme measures if the protests by PTI workers cross the red line.

“We are making it clear in advance—if we have to take extreme steps, we will,” Naqvi stated, adding that authorities aim to prevent bloodshed. “When they open fire, the response will also be in kind,” he remarked, emphasizing the government’s resolve to maintain law and order.

Naqvi explained that PTI protesters were offered an alternative protest site in Sangjani to avoid clashes. “It’s been 24 hours since the offer, and they’ve even held meetings in Adiala Jail regarding it. However, we’ve yet to receive a final response,” he said, noting that protests at D-Chowk have not been permitted in the past.

The minister also highlighted the presence of Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko in Islamabad, underscoring the need to maintain order for foreign relations. “Bringing 5,000 to 10,000 people to take over the city is unacceptable,” he asserted.

Naqvi reiterated that public safety remains the government’s priority. “Our goal is to protect lives and prevent damage. Shots are being fired at security personnel, and we will respond as necessary,” he warned.

He also dismissed speculation about negotiations, clarifying that no meetings had been held at the Ministers Enclave. “Their agenda is different from ours,” Naqvi said, reiterating the government’s commitment to upholding public order.

Regarding the PTI’s internal deliberations, Naqvi mentioned meetings held in Adiala Jail between PTI leaders, including Barrister Gohar Ali Khan and Imran Khan. “The PTI’s internal matters are their concern. We are awaiting their official response to our proposal,” he concluded.

The minister’s remarks come amidst escalating tensions in Islamabad, with the government prepared to take decisive action to prevent further unrest.
