Ogra approves gas price hike as cold weather sweeps across Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: With winter temperatures continuing to drop, the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (Ogra) has approved an increase in gas prices for the current fiscal year.

According to a notification released by Ogra on Tuesday, the authority has approved an 8.71% price hike for Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) customers and a 25.78% increase for Sui Southern Gas Company Limited (SSGCL) customers.

The notification further stated that the decision to raise gas prices has been forwarded to the federal government for final approval.

Ogra has recommended an average gas price of Rs1,778.35 per MMBTU for Sui Northern and Rs1,762.51 per MMBTU for Sui Southern.

“Ogra, under Section 8(2) of the OGRA Ordinance, 2002, has determined the Review of Estimated Revenue Requirement (RERR) for SNGPL and SSGCL for FY 2024-25 as per its decisions on December 17, 2024,” the notification reads. “Both determinations have been sent to the federal government for category-wise natural gas sale price advice as per Section 8(3) of the OGRA Ordinance.”

The agency further mentioned that any decision from the government will be announced by Ogra, with current natural gas sale prices remaining in effect until then.
