Opposition Leader Omar Ayub has written to the Speaker of the National Assembly regarding the appointment of the new Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) and members for Sindh and Balochistan.
In his letter, Ayub urged the formation of a parliamentary committee to oversee these appointments, as the terms of the current CEC and two members will expire on January 26.
He emphasized that the committee should be established under Article 213 of the Constitution to ensure the timely and transparent selection of candidates for these constitutional positions.
Ayub further highlighted that the committee’s role would be vital in ensuring the appointments are made promptly and fairly.
Alongside Ayub, Senate Opposition Leader Shibli Faraz has also addressed the Chairman of the Senate on the same issue today. The calls for a parliamentary committee come amid the government’s challenge of filling key constitutional roles in the country.
