PM Shehbaz: CPEC Phase-II set to transform Pakistan’s economy

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif stated on Thursday that the second phase of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) is set to play a crucial role in transforming Pakistan’s economy.

Speaking at an event hosted by the Chinese Embassy to mark the 75th anniversary of China’s founding, PM Shehbaz emphasized the vast potential for mutual cooperation in CPEC’s second phase, particularly in sectors such as agriculture, information technology, and mining. He noted that these areas, among others, are of significant mutual interest.

The prime minister extended congratulations to the Chinese government and its citizens, highlighting China’s emergence as a global power and a key partner on the international stage.

“The friendship between Pakistan and China is higher than the Himalayas and deeper than the oceans,” he remarked.

Among the attendees at the event were President Asif Ali Zardari, federal ministers, diplomats, dignitaries, and senior civil and military officials.

PM Shehbaz also acknowledged China’s pivotal role in Pakistan’s negotiations with the International Monetary Fund (IMF). However, he stressed the importance of advancing development in fields such as agriculture and industry to ensure Pakistan’s long-term prosperity.

He reiterated that the partnership between Pakistan and China not only promotes regional peace and development but also contributes to global stability, in line with President Xi Jinping’s vision.

Additionally, the prime minister reaffirmed Pakistan’s support for China’s positions on international matters, including those concerning Hong Kong and Taiwan.

Expressing his appreciation for the warm reception from President Xi Jinping and Chinese leaders during his recent visit to China, PM Shehbaz described the Pakistan-China relationship as “indestructible and inseparable.”

He also expressed eagerness to welcome the Chinese prime minister, who is expected to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Council of Heads of Government (SCO CHG) meeting in Islamabad.

‘Pakistan to collaborate with China for shared prosperity and global peace’

During the “China’s National Day Reception,” President Asif Ali Zardari reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to working with China to promote shared prosperity and global peace.

He highlighted the significance of CPEC, stating that its high-quality development would “unlock greater benefits for both nations” and enhance regional connectivity and prosperity.

President Zardari extended warm felicitations to the Chinese people on their national day, recognizing October 1st as the rebirth of a strong and united China, achieved through the leadership of the Communist Party.

He acknowledged the contributions of successive generations in solidifying the Pakistan-China friendship, which has evolved into an “all-weather strategic cooperative partnership” and a model for interstate relations.

Zardari described China as an “iron-clad brother” of Pakistan, with the two nations standing by each other during difficult times.

He also expressed optimism that China would achieve remarkable milestones in the coming decades, which would not only boost its development but also reshape global politics, economics, and culture in positive ways.
