Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has urged the international community to heed the cries of the suffering people in Gaza.
Addressing a special session on Palestine and Lebanon during the D-8 Summit, he thanked Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi for organizing this critical meeting amidst the ongoing crisis.
The Prime Minister condemned Israel’s unrelenting aggression, warning that its escalation from Gaza to the West Bank risks sparking a larger regional conflict. He described the violence since October 2023 as a catastrophic humanitarian crisis and one of history’s darkest chapters.
Highlighting Pakistan’s unwavering stance, PM Shehbaz denounced Israel’s actions in Gaza, the West Bank, Lebanon, and Syria. He also criticized attacks on the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), which he called a lifeline for millions of vulnerable Palestinians.
Reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to a just and lasting resolution of the Middle East conflict, he stressed the importance of a sovereign Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital, based on pre-1967 borders and international law.
The Prime Minister called for immediate international efforts to broker a ceasefire and facilitate the reconstruction of war-torn areas in Gaza, the West Bank, Lebanon, and beyond. He emphasized the urgency of continued humanitarian aid, with Pakistan already sending assistance through Egypt and Jordan.
Concluding his remarks, PM Shehbaz appealed to the world: “Listen to the innocent voices of Gaza.”
