Police confront MWM protesters at Karachi’s Numaish Chowrangi

Violence erupted at Numaish Chowrangi on Tuesday as police used tear gas to disperse Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen (MWM) protesters, ARY News reported.

The police action provoked a violent reaction, with protesters pelting stones at officers and setting several motorcycles ablaze. Among the injured were multiple police officers, including SSP Keamari Faizan Ali and members of the Special Security Unit (SSU) Commandos. Rescue teams transported the injured, including an SSU commando, to Civil Hospital for treatment.

Authorities detained several protesters as tensions escalated. Police continue efforts to restore order in the area while investigating the incident.

Chief Minister’s Response
Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah condemned the violence, particularly the arson of vehicles and motorcycles. He emphasized the importance of safeguarding public and private property during protests.

“Everyone has the right to protest, but damaging property is an unacceptable act of mischief,” said Shah, adding that legal action will be taken against those responsible for the destruction. He reminded protesters that designated platforms are available for demonstrations and must be utilized responsibly.

The Chief Minister directed the Additional IG to take immediate action to end the unrest and submit a detailed report on the incident.

Ongoing Protests Across Karachi
Meanwhile, police initiated measures to end a sit-in by MWM protesters at Abbas Town, as demonstrations continue at 10 locations across Karachi.

Protesters have blocked key areas, including MA Jinnah Road at Numaish Chowrangi, Kamran Chowrangi, Johar Mor, and Five Star Chowrangi. Demonstrations are also underway at University Road, Shamsuddin Azimi Road, Ancholi, Nazimabad No. 1 and 2, and Ayesha Manzil Chowrangi.

Road closures around protest sites have disrupted traffic, with congestion reported on alternative routes as authorities attempt to manage the situation.
