Twelve people were injured in a blast targeting a police van near the Eastern Bypass in Quetta, according to hospital and government officials on Wednesday.
Balochistan government spokesperson Shahid Rind confirmed in a statement that the explosion was aimed at a police van. The Balochistan Health Department also released a list of 12 individuals injured in the incident.
Rind strongly condemned the attack, noting that a police officer was among those injured. He added that an investigation had been launched, and bomb disposal teams were gathering evidence at the scene.
The health department’s media coordinator, Dr. Waseem Baig, stated that the injured were transported to the Quetta Trauma Centre for further treatment after receiving initial medical aid at Civil Hospital’s emergency department.
Earlier this month, on September 14, two policemen were martyred and another injured in a bomb blast targeting officials in the city’s Kuchlak area.
Increase in Terrorist Attacks
Pakistan has witnessed a surge in terrorist incidents, with 59 attacks recorded in August compared to 38 in July, according to data from the Pak Institute for Peace Studies (PIPS), an Islamabad-based think-tank.
In a recent outbreak of violence, militants from the banned Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) launched a series of attacks across Balochistan on the night of August 25. These assaults targeted security forces and civilians, leading to widespread destruction.
At least 50 people, including 14 security personnel, were killed as militants attacked police stations, destroyed railway tracks, and set fire to nearly three dozen vehicles. Security forces responded by neutralizing 21 militants.
Among the victims were 23 laborers from Punjab who were shot dead in Musakhail after being offloaded from trucks and vans.
Following the violence, Chief of Army Staff General Asim Munir reiterated the military’s commitment to eradicating terrorism, stating that the war would continue until all terrorists were eliminated.
“Our security forces, law enforcement agencies, and the brave people of Pakistan — particularly those from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan — have made unparalleled sacrifices in this fight for the country,” he said.
