Apex Committee Reaffirms Commitment to National Security and Counterterrorism
The Apex Committee of the National Action Plan (NAP), led by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, convened to address critical security challenges, with a particular emphasis on the situation in Balochistan.
Strengthening Counterterrorism Efforts
The committee pledged to implement a robust security framework against terrorist organizations in Balochistan. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif stressed the importance of political unity to tackle national challenges effectively, highlighting the need for a collective approach to achieve lasting peace.
“Fostering a positive national narrative is key to addressing the country’s issues,” the prime minister stated.
Chief of Army Staff General Asim Munir reaffirmed the military’s unwavering dedication to protecting lives and property while intensifying counterterrorism efforts.
Reactivating NACTA and Enhancing Intelligence
Discussions included the reactivation of the National Counter Terrorism Authority (NACTA) and the establishment of national and provincial intelligence fusion and threat assessment centers.
The forum emphasized the role of active diplomacy with neighboring countries to dismantle terrorist networks, underscoring the importance of strengthening regional ties to combat cross-border terrorism.
“All stakeholders must contribute to eliminating terrorism,” the committee resolved.
Role on the Global Stage
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif highlighted Pakistan’s responsibilities as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC). He congratulated the nation on this achievement, attributing it to the efforts of Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar and other officials.
“Pakistan will fulfill its global role during this tenure,” he assured.
The prime minister also directed the interior minister to work with provincial governments to develop integrated security plans, focusing on modernizing police training and technology to address evolving threats.
Tackling Domestic and Digital Threats
The prime minister voiced concerns over internal security, particularly terrorist activities and infiltration in Balochistan, stressing the urgency of countering anti-Pakistan conspiracies.
“It’s time to eliminate terrorists completely,” he declared, urging provincial and federal collaboration on a comprehensive counterterrorism strategy.
The committee also addressed the spread of fake news and misinformation, vowing to combat “digital terrorism.” PM Shehbaz Sharif condemned anti-Pakistan propaganda on social media, warning of its detrimental impact.
“Lies and distortions on digital platforms are undermining national efforts,” he said, emphasizing the need to counter such narratives effectively.
Support for Security Forces
The sacrifices of security personnel were acknowledged, with the committee stressing the importance of strengthening law enforcement agencies. A review of measures to protect foreign nationals in Pakistan was also conducted.
The prime minister condemned campaigns targeting security forces, urging the public, especially the youth, to resist misinformation and value the sacrifices of national defenders.
Unity and Action for National Security
In conclusion, the committee emphasized the necessity of cooperation between federal and provincial governments and institutions to ensure internal security. It warned against the misuse of protests to incite chaos, advocating for strict measures to maintain peace.
