Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) spokesperson Sheikh Waqas Akram alleged that military courts granted amnesty to individuals who had already served a year in prison and whose sentences were nearing completion, according to Express News.
Akram further revealed that two days after PTI founder Imran Khan’s arrest, he was offered the option to leave the country. Speaking on Express News’ Centre Stage, he shared that Khan declined the offer, asserting that he would only consider leaving if PTI prisoners were released.
“Imran Khan said he was offered a chance to leave, but he refused, insisting that the release of our prisoners must come first,” Akram stated.
Commenting on the second round of negotiations between the government and PTI, Akram mentioned that it was the first meeting where all parties participated. “We presented our demands clearly, and our two main demands are non-negotiable,” he said, emphasizing the need for a detailed meeting with Khan to progress discussions.
“We are simply asking for justice, not making unreasonable demands. Our prisoners must be freed, and the whereabouts of our missing persons must be disclosed,” he added.
Akram highlighted the demand for a judicial commission, calling it a reasonable request. “Why can’t such a commission be formed?” he questioned, asserting that the party’s demands aligned with constitutional and legal frameworks.
Regarding the 190-million-pound case, Akram argued that valid charges would have been resolved in the first hearing of a higher court. “PTI has always opposed military courts, and our stance remains unchanged,” he stated.
He concluded by noting that many individuals pardoned by military courts had already served most of their sentences. “The cases against PTI can also be resolved in a similar manner,” he affirmed.
