Punjab has intensified its crackdown on the use of plastic bags throughout the province.
Senior Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb stated that the crackdown is being carried out under the directives of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz.
Aurangzeb highlighted the innovative use of plastic in various initiatives, including the creation of a play area from plastic at Lahore’s Model Bazaar and the installation of plastic chairs in schools lacking seating. She also mentioned plans to make sewer covers from plastic.
The Environmental Department reported that 1,754 kg of plastic bags were seized in Rawalpindi.
Last April, the Punjab government, led by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, imposed a comprehensive ban on plastic bags across the province, a move announced during a high-level meeting chaired by Aurangzeb.
