Sheikhupura police arrest rickshaw driver for stealing woman’s dowry

SHEIKHUPURA – A rickshaw driver who fled with a woman’s dowry items was swiftly arrested by the police, thanks to the Smart Safe City Sheikhupura team.

According to a Safe City spokesperson, the woman reported the theft via the 15 Helpline, prompting authorities to track the suspect using Safe City cameras. The Virtual Patrolling Officer traced the rickshaw’s route, leading to the driver’s quick capture.

Police recovered the stolen dowry items, worth approximately two and a half lakh rupees, and initiated legal proceedings against the suspect.

In a similar incident in Karachi’s Nazimabad area, a rickshaw driver fled with a family’s dowry items just weeks before a wedding. CCTV footage of the theft surfaced on social media, sparking calls for police intervention. The victims had hired a rickshaw to transport household items from Liaquatabad to Orangi Town when the driver absconded with the goods.
