A firing attack on official vehicles in Lower Kurram, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P), injured the Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Kurram district, Javed Allah Mehsud, and a police officer.
The incident took place in the Baggan area when unidentified attackers opened fire on government vehicles, as reported by Express News. The DC sustained injuries and was swiftly transported to the Lower Ali Zai hospital. Authorities confirmed that he is in stable condition and will be airlifted to Peshawar for further treatment.
Additional reports indicated stone pelting and firing near Irfani Killi, although details on casualties and damage remain unclear.
Authorities Respond
Barrister Dr. Saif, the K-P government’s information advisor, reassured the public that the DC was no longer in critical condition. “He has been transferred from Alizai Hospital to CMH Tull for surgery, and his condition is stable,” Dr. Saif stated. He also confirmed that the convoy, temporarily halted after the attack, would soon resume its journey to Parachinar.
Dr. Saif urged Sunni and Shia communities to maintain peace and avoid falling prey to conspiracies, attributing the attack to malicious miscreants. He emphasized that security forces have the situation under control and are preventing further escalation. The K-P government also appealed to the public to avoid spreading misinformation and trust ongoing security operations.
President’s Reaction
President Zardari expressed deep concern over the incident in a statement issued by the President’s Secretariat Press Wing. He prayed for the swift recovery of the injured and condemned the attack as an attempt to disrupt peace in the region.
“These acts of violence are designed to create chaos and derail harmony,” Zardari remarked, urging the people of Kurram and beyond to remain united. He also called for immediate measures to prevent such incidents and ensure lasting peace and security in the area.
