The Islamabad District and Sessions Court has extended the interim bails of Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi in the Toshakhana 2.0 case until January 7, 2024.
The hearing, led by Additional Sessions Judge Muhammad Afzal Mujoka, was attended by junior lawyers on behalf of the accused, as their senior counsel was engaged in another case at Central Jail Adiala. The court granted an extension of the bails and adjourned the hearing.
Earlier, a trial court had formally indicted Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi for allegedly violating the Toshakhana rules during Imran’s tenure as prime minister. The case relates to the acquisition of a Bulgari jewelry set during a visit to Saudi Arabia in May 2021.
At a session in Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail, where Imran Khan has been detained for over a year, both the PTI leader and his wife denied the charges. The court adjourned proceedings until December 18, when the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) is set to present the first four of its 28 witnesses.
Toshakhana 2.0 Case Details:
The Toshakhana 2.0 case revolves around allegations that Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi illegally retained a Bulgari jewelry set gifted to them during their trip to Saudi Arabia. The set, which included a ring, bracelet, necklace, and earrings, was valued at approximately Rs75.7 million. However, the couple allegedly undervalued the jewelry, resulting in a loss of Rs32.9 million to the national treasury.
The investigation found that they violated Section 9 and Subsections 3, 4, 6, and 12 of the NAB Ordinance 1999, by failing to deposit the jewelry into the national treasury as mandated by law.
