DASKA: Police have disclosed that four suspects in the Zahra murder case remain in custody but are not currently under investigation, according to ARY News.
So far, authorities have arrested eight individuals in connection with the case. Among them, four are in police custody, including Zahra’s sister-in-law and her son Qasim, along with two distant relatives, Shabbir and Azan, from Wazirabad. The remaining suspects have been sent to jail.
The Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) stated that the four individuals in custody are being held to clarify certain facts related to the investigation.
Background:
Zahra, a seven-month pregnant woman, was brutally murdered earlier this month by her in-laws in Daska, Punjab. The heinous crime shocked the nation when it was revealed that Zahra’s mother-in-law, Sughra Bibi, and her daughter Yasmeen killed her, dismembered her body, and disposed of it in a canal to cover up the crime.
The suspects severed the victim’s limbs, burned her head to hinder identification, and spread false rumors that she had eloped. At night, Sughra transported Zahra’s remains in bags to a canal.
Zahra, a 26-year-old from Kot Mand in Gujranwala, had been married to Qadeer from Kotli Marlan for four years. Her husband, who works abroad, was not present at the time of the incident.
Daska police have registered a murder case after discovering her body. Sughra, Yasmeen, and a grandson, Abdullah, were arrested shortly after the crime was reported.
