Aqib Javed Takes on Role as Pakistan’s White-Ball Coach

Former Test cricketer Aqib Javed has officially accepted the role of Pakistan’s white-ball coach, following Gary Kirsten’s resignation from the position last month, ARY News reported, citing sources.

Javed will assume his new role ahead of Pakistan’s Zimbabwe series, starting on November 24, after the conclusion of the Australia tour.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is expected to make an official announcement regarding Aqib Javed’s appointment as the new white-ball coach.

Following Kirsten’s resignation, the PCB had appointed red-ball coach Jason Gillespie as the interim coach for the white-ball format during the Australia tour.

In a statement, the PCB confirmed: “Jason Gillespie will coach the Pakistan men’s cricket team for next month’s white-ball tour of Australia after Gary Kirsten’s resignation was accepted.”

Sources indicated that Kirsten resigned due to growing tensions between him and the PCB, particularly over the board’s decision to remove the coaching duo’s selection powers. Kirsten, though quiet in public, was reportedly disappointed by the shift, feeling sidelined as the current selection committee gained more influence in selection and captaincy matters.
