The Global Super League, a new five-team T20 tournament, is set to make its debut in Guyana from November 26 to December 7. With a prize pool of US$1 million, the tournament will feature teams from five different countries and has been officially sanctioned by Cricket West Indies (CWI). The event is also supported by the Guyanese government, a key partner in organizing the tournament.
This will be South America’s first standalone cricket tournament, featuring the Guyana Amazon Warriors from the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) alongside four other established T20 teams from around the globe.
Global Super League chairman Clive Lloyd, in an official release, expressed excitement, saying, “The passion for cricket in Guyana rivals that of fans anywhere, and we look forward to showcasing our love for the game and our vibrant country to both visitors and viewers worldwide.”
The tournament will consist of 11 matches, with each team playing four group-stage games. The top two teams will advance to the final. All matches will take place at the Guyana National Stadium in Providence. According to a media release, the event is set to become an annual fixture, with new teams being invited to participate each year.
