ICC announces hybrid model for Champions Trophy 2025 and other events in India and Pakistan

DUBAI: The International Cricket Council (ICC) has officially confirmed the hybrid model for the 2025 Champions Trophy, which will be hosted by Pakistan, with India’s matches taking place at a neutral venue.

Earlier today, ESPNcricinfo reported that the hybrid model had been approved for the entire ICC event cycle from 2024 to 2027. The ICC has now confirmed this development in a press release.

The ICC announced, “The ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025 will be played across Pakistan and a neutral venue.”

The statement continued, “Matches between India and Pakistan at ICC events during the 2024-2027 cycle will be held at neutral venues, as confirmed by the ICC Board on Thursday, December 19.”

This arrangement will apply not only to the 2025 ICC Men’s Champions Trophy, scheduled for February and March 2025, but also to the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 (hosted by India) and the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 (co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka).

Additionally, the ICC confirmed that Pakistan will host the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in 2028, marking the first event of the next cycle. As with previous events, India will not travel to Pakistan for the 2028 tournament.

The press release further stated, “The PCB has been awarded the rights to host the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in 2028, where neutral venue arrangements will also apply.”

The schedule for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 will be confirmed soon, with Pakistan looking to defend the title they won in 2017.
