New Zealand secured a spot in the final of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 by defeating West Indies by eight runs in the second semifinal.
After winning the toss, New Zealand opted to bat at the Sharjah Cricket Association Stadium in the UAE, setting a total of 128-9, with opener Georgia Plimmer contributing 33 runs. West Indies’ Deandra Dottin looked poised to guide her team to victory with a swift 33 off 22 balls, but Eden Carsen’s impressive 3-29 performance earned her Player of the Match honors.
New Zealand, aiming for their first T20 World Cup title, advanced from the “group of death,” which saw India, Sri Lanka, and Pakistan eliminated alongside Australia. West Indies, the 2016 champions, earned their semifinal spot by defeating England in the group stage, joining South Africa in the final four.
South Africa triumphed over defending champions and six-time winners Australia by eight wickets in the first semifinal on Thursday. The final will be held in Dubai on Sunday.
