Pakistan’s cricket team has been fined 25% of their match fees and had five points deducted in the ICC World Test Championship for a slow over-rate during the second Test in Cape Town against South Africa.
According to an ICC statement, the penalty was imposed by Elite Panel Match Referee Richie Richardson after Pakistan failed to complete the required overs within the allotted time.
As per ICC Code of Conduct Article 2.22, teams are fined 5% of their match fees for each over bowled below the required total. Additionally, under the ICC World Test Championship’s playing conditions (Article 16.11.2), one point is deducted for each over missed.
Pakistan’s captain, Shan Masood, took responsibility for the offense and accepted both the penalty and the consequences.
