South African pacers Corbin Bosch and Dane Paterson dominated as Pakistan were bowled out for 211 on the opening day of the first Test against South Africa at Centurion on Thursday.
Bosch, on his Test debut, marked a dream start by claiming a wicket with his first delivery. He dismissed Pakistan captain Shan Masood and finished with 4-63 from 15 overs. Paterson was the standout bowler, taking 5-61 from 16 overs to leave Pakistan struggling at 209/9 by tea.
After South Africa won the toss and opted to bowl, Bosch made an immediate impact, removing Masood for a duck with his first ball, becoming the 25th player in Test history to achieve the feat. Paterson followed with quick wickets, sending Imam-ul-Haq (0) and Babar Azam (4) back to the pavilion.
Bosch struck again before lunch, dismissing Saud Shakeel for 14, while Paterson added another scalp after the break, removing Kamran Ghulam for 54, who was caught off a top-edged pull shot. Rizwan (27) was next to go, caught at second slip off Paterson.
Pakistan’s collapse continued as Aamer Jamal (0), Salman Agha (0), and Naseem Shah (0) all fell without scoring. The final session was extended by 30 minutes, but despite defiant resistance from Khurram Shahzad (9) and Mohammad Abbas (10), Pakistan’s innings was wrapped up with the score at 211.
The day ended with South Africa firmly in control, having reduced Pakistan to a near-collapse despite the late fightback.
