In a recent interview with an Indian media outlet on her 38th birthday, Sania Mirza, who retired from tennis last February and was recently named sports ambassador for Dubai, shared that while she misses the court, managing her tennis academy keeps her connected to the sport. However, she confessed that the physical pain in her knees often reminds her why she stopped playing professionally.
“I do miss the court, but the pain in my knees quickly reminds me of why I had to stop playing,” Mirza said.
“But overall, I still feel very much connected to the sport. Besides the competition, I don’t feel like I’ve left it. I frequently meet my peers,” she added.
Reflecting on her journey as a mother, Mirza spoke about her son Izhaan, saying, “Being a mom is something I truly cherish, and I’m doing my best to spend as much time as possible with Izhaan.”
Mirza was married to Pakistani cricketer Shoaib Malik, with whom she shares their son Izhaan. In January, following Malik’s announcement of his third marriage to actor Sana Javed, the couple confirmed that Sania had filed for separation through khula, a Muslim woman’s right to seek divorce.
On her 38th birthday, the former tennis star reflected on her blessings, expressing a wish for nothing more than peace in her life.
