The future of the 2025 Champions Trophy remains uncertain as the crucial ICC board meeting has been postponed for 24 to 28 hours, sources informed Geo News on Friday.
In a brief virtual meeting lasting just 15 minutes, the International Cricket Council (ICC) urged the involved parties to come up with a solution to ensure the smooth execution of the tournament, following India’s refusal to travel to Pakistan as the host nation.
The meeting was attended by officials from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). During the session, both boards presented their proposals for the tournament’s organization. Sources indicated that the ICC would assist in finding a mutually agreeable solution.
A feasible option for the Champions Trophy will reportedly be explored within the next 24 to 48 hours, with both boards planning to consult their respective governments before making a final decision.
This development comes amidst the ongoing political and cricketing tensions between Pakistan and India. The PCB has firmly opposed a hybrid model, which would involve playing matches between India and Pakistan at a neutral venue. PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi reiterated that they would accept setbacks, but not at the expense of their dignity.
While the PCB has already made significant preparations for hosting the tournament, India’s refusal to play in Pakistan continues to complicate matters, with broadcasters expressing concerns over potential financial losses.
