Apple is gearing up to improve the thermal efficiency of its devices by introducing vapor chamber (VC) cooling technology across the entire iPhone 17 lineup.
This move brings Apple’s hardware on par with many high-end Android devices that already employ this advanced cooling method.
Vapor chambers are sealed metal units containing deionized water, which evaporates when heated by the device’s chipset. This process distributes heat evenly across the chamber, minimizing thermal throttling and enhancing performance during demanding tasks like gaming or video editing.
Initially, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo suggested that VC cooling would be exclusive to the iPhone 17 Pro Max. However, recent updates confirm that Apple intends to extend this feature to all models in the series.
Additionally, the iPhone 17 lineup is expected to offer high refresh-rate displays across all variants. While the exact refresh rate—90Hz or 120Hz—remains unconfirmed, the upgrade promises smoother visuals and a more responsive experience, even for mid-range models.
These advancements address persistent heat management issues, especially as iPhones now support AAA gaming titles like Resident Evil Village.
