Elon Musk unveils xAI’s Grok 3 chatbot release

Billionaire Elon Musk has announced that his artificial intelligence chatbot, Grok 3, developed by xAI as a competitor to ChatGPT, will be released with a live demo at 8 p.m. Pacific Time on Monday (0400 GMT on Tuesday).

Earlier this week, Musk stated that Grok 3 was in its final development stages and would be launched within a week or two.

“Grok 3 possesses highly advanced reasoning capabilities. In our tests so far, it has outperformed any AI model currently available, which is a promising sign,” Musk said during a video call at the World Governments Summit in Dubai.

Musk founded xAI as a rival to Microsoft-backed OpenAI and Google’s Alphabet. Notably, he was also a co-founder of OpenAI.

On Monday, a consortium of investors led by Musk offered $97.4 billion to acquire OpenAI’s nonprofit assets, escalating his ongoing conflict with the AI startup.

OpenAI has expressed its intention to transition into a for-profit entity to secure the necessary capital for developing advanced AI models.

Musk previously sued OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and others in August, urging a U.S. district judge to block the company’s transition to a for-profit structure. OpenAI responded by stating that Musk’s acquisition bid contradicts his lawsuit.

“I think the evidence shows that OpenAI has progressed while maintaining a dual profit and nonprofit model. Their current attempt to completely eliminate the nonprofit aspect seems excessive,” Musk remarked.

In a separate discussion, Musk, who was appointed by former U.S. President Donald Trump to oversee the Department of Government Efficiency, suggested that government spending could be reduced by over $1 trillion.

“Potentially, the economy could grow at 4-5% in terms of real useful goods and services output. If government spending is reduced by about 3-4% of GDP—around a trillion dollars or more—the net effect could result in no inflation from 2025 to 2026, which would be remarkable,” he explained.

During the conference, UAE AI Minister Omar Al Olama revealed plans for a collaboration on the “Dubai Loop,” a high-speed underground transport system Musk compared to a wormhole. However, Al Olama did not provide further details.

Addressing international relations, Musk told the Middle Eastern audience that the U.S. has been “pushy” in global affairs and should adopt a more non-interventionist approach.

“In general, we should allow other countries to manage their own affairs,” he said.

Meanwhile, former U.S. President Donald Trump sparked outrage in the Arab world by suggesting that the U.S. should take control of Gaza, relocate its Palestinian inhabitants, and transform it into the “Riviera of the Middle East.”
