Take-Two Interactive’s CEO, Strauss Zelnick, recently discussed the role of artificial intelligence (AI) in game development, addressing speculation around AI’s impact on the upcoming release of Grand Theft Auto (GTA) 6. Fans noticed intriguing building interiors and signs in the first trailer, fueling theories about AI’s involvement in the game’s production.
Zelnick clarified that while AI won’t necessarily accelerate game development, it could reduce the workload on creative teams. “The interactive entertainment industry has relied on AI for a long time, but let’s remember that ‘artificial intelligence’ is a bit of an oxymoron—true intelligence doesn’t exist in AI,” he explained in an interview.
He went on to state, “I wish I could say AI will make development cheaper, faster, or more efficient in creating hits, but that’s not the case.” However, Zelnick believes AI can help creative teams focus on more artistic tasks by handling routine work.
Meanwhile, Rockstar Games, a subsidiary of Take-Two, is preparing to launch GTA 6 in Fall 2025. The company has confirmed the game’s release for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, though no PC release date has been announced.
