ISLAMABAD: Amid rapid digital advancements, Pakistan is moving closer to establishing a robust network of modern information technology (IT) parks designed to provide young professionals with a platform to launch their innovative ideas and contribute effectively to the national economy.
“These IT parks are projected to create job opportunities for IT professionals, attract millions in foreign exchange, bolster the IT industry, and enhance exports upon completion and full operation,” stated an official from the Ministry of Information Technology.
The official highlighted that the foundation of an IT park in Islamabad, supported by Korea, was recently laid in Chak Shahzad as part of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s ‘Digital Pakistan’ initiative.
Detailing the project, he noted, “A budget of Rs 13.72 billion has been allocated to address the infrastructure needs in the IT sector. This project will support technology transfer through industry-academia collaboration, facilitate technology commercialization, link higher education with production, promote research and development, and enhance IT exports and industry competitiveness.”
The Islamabad IT Park will feature a twelve-story building (including two basements and ten floors) covering 66,893 square meters. It will initially offer office space for approximately 120 start-ups and small to medium enterprises, alongside facilities such as testing labs, classrooms, an industry-academia linkage center, and an auditorium.
Aligned with the Prime Minister’s vision, all related institutions and departments are collaborating on initiatives aimed at elevating Pakistan’s IT exports to $25 billion.
