Meta introduces its new Llama AI model, setting the stage for future innovations.

Meta’s latest iteration of its Llama AI model is designed to expand its capabilities, enabling more developers to leverage the company’s open-source AI protocols, which have already gained significant traction.

Mark Zuckerberg has touted Llama as the most widely adopted AI model globally, with over 650 million downloads. Meta remains committed to open-sourcing its AI tools, believing this strategy will drive innovation and position the company as a central player in future AI projects, potentially enhancing its market dominance.

Meta’s ambitions extend beyond AI, with the company also focusing on strengthening its position in virtual reality (VR). By collaborating with third parties, Meta aims to solidify its tools as the benchmark for the next generation of digital experiences.

Zuckerberg also announced plans for a new AI data center in Louisiana and revealed an initiative to explore undersea cabling. He emphasized that Meta AI is on track to become the world’s most widely used AI assistant, with 600 million monthly active users.

However, the claim of 600 million users for Meta AI remains somewhat unclear. While Meta’s apps—Facebook, Instagram, Messenger, and WhatsApp—boast over 3 billion active users, it’s not certain how engaged these users are with the AI assistant, as random prompts encouraging AI image generation may have inflated these figures. A more meaningful metric would focus on user engagement, such as the amount of time spent interacting with the assistant and the frequency of use.

Ultimately, Meta’s push for AI tools and VR integration signals its long-term strategy, with the true impact of these advancements likely unfolding as VR becomes a more integral part of users’ lives.
