ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has been ranked 198th globally in internet speed, according to a report by the World Population Review.
The report places Pakistan below countries such as Palestine, Bhutan, Ghana, Iraq, Iran, Lebanon, and Libya in terms of internet speed.
Currently, Pakistan’s average mobile internet download speed stands at 19.59 Mbps, while broadband internet averages 15.52 Mbps.
Globally, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) leads in both mobile and broadband internet speeds, followed by Singapore for mobile internet and Qatar for broadband. Hong Kong and Chile secure the third and fourth spots for mobile internet speeds, respectively.
The report anticipates that technological advancements will improve internet speeds over time.

Sajjad Mustafa Syed, Chairman of the Pakistan Software Houses Association (P@SHA), has assured that Pakistan’s internet speed challenges are expected to improve within three months. However, concerns have been raised that the implementation of a firewall could lead to further connectivity issues.
“If WhatsApp messages are being sent but images fail to transmit, it may signal monitoring activities,” Syed explained.
Users across Pakistan continue to face intermittent outages and slower internet speeds, disrupting browsing, downloading, and media sharing. Both Wi-Fi and mobile data services have been reported to experience significant slowdowns, making it challenging to send or receive images, videos, and voice notes on platforms like WhatsApp.
