Pakistan to request US waiver for Iran gas pipeline project

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistani government has decided to approach the incoming US administration to request a waiver on sanctions concerning the Pak-Iran gas pipeline project, according to sources quoted by ARY News.

Sources revealed that Pakistan seeks an exemption from the sanctions to mitigate potential economic impacts. The government stresses that the pipeline project with Iran is vital for securing affordable energy and thus considers it necessary to raise the matter with the new US leadership.

Officials from Pakistan indicated that the project is currently hindered by the sanctions, and therefore, careful negotiations are required.

Efforts are underway to secure an exemption from the US sanctions, which would allow the pipeline project to progress without breaching US restrictions. While delays have not been caused by Pakistan, the sanctions have significantly impacted the project.

Additionally, Pakistan is working to persuade Iran that a balanced solution can be found to move forward with the pipeline while addressing the concerns of all parties involved.

The government is determined to ensure the smooth continuation of the project, safeguarding the country’s energy security and economic interests.
