PM appreciates digital FDI initiative

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has emphasized that adopting digital infrastructure, embracing digitization, and promoting digital services exports can help create a framework to attract foreign direct investment (FDI).

He described the move as a major step towards fostering an investor-friendly environment in Pakistan.

In a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office, Shehbaz Sharif expressed his approval of Pakistan’s inclusion in the joint Digital Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) Initiative by the World Economic Forum (WEF) and the Digital Cooperation Organisation (DCO).

“Pakistan is the first country to embrace the Digital FDI Initiative within the WEF framework,” he noted.

The first project under this initiative aims to identify key targets and accelerate digital growth, focusing on digital infrastructure, digitization, and the export of digital services, which could encourage foreign direct investment.

“Pakistan is progressing towards a comprehensive digital economy, which is vital for sustainable development and prosperity. This initiative underscores the Government of Pakistan’s commitment to stimulating economic growth,” Shehbaz said.

He further added that the initiative will help create an environment conducive to investment in Pakistan, which is crucial for achieving long-term economic goals.
