PTA Initiates Second Trial to Block Unauthorized VPNs

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has begun a two-day trial to simulate the closure of unregistered VPNs using advanced firewall technology.

This exercise is part of a larger initiative aimed at regulating VPN usage and ensuring users comply with government policies.

PTA has set a deadline of November 30 for VPN registration, with plans to officially ban unregistered VPNs starting December 1.

So far, over 25,000 VPNs have been registered, signaling growing awareness among users about the regulatory requirements.

This second trial follows a previous test conducted by the PTA, which also focused on identifying and blocking unauthorized VPN connections.

While VPNs are widely used by businesses and individuals to secure internet connections and bypass restrictions, authorities argue that unregulated VPNs can pose national security risks and disrupt digital surveillance efforts.
