Punjab launches electric taxi initiative to combat pollution

Punjab’s new initiative will introduce an e-taxi service, offering online taxi drivers vehicles through affordable packages. These electric taxis aim to reduce air pollution and provide economic advantages for drivers.

Provincial Transport Minister Bilal Akbar Khan highlighted that a significant portion of online taxi fleets will transition to electric vehicles (EVs). Drivers can acquire these EVs through down payments or convenient installment plans.

Khan noted that electric taxis will not only lower air pollution but also bring financial benefits. “Our research shows drivers can save up to 40% on fuel costs by adopting electric vehicles,” he said.

The scheme addresses the rising demand for online taxi services in Punjab and the urgent need to reduce pollution in urban centers, particularly Lahore.

Key Features of the E-Taxi Scheme

  • Eco-Friendly Transition: Electric vehicles will reduce emissions and enhance air quality.
  • Affordable Access: EVs will be offered on down payment or easy installments.
  • Economic Benefits: Lower fuel costs will increase drivers’ earnings.
  • Job Creation: The initiative will generate employment opportunities for the unemployed.

Bilal Akbar Khan reaffirmed the provincial government’s dedication to improving environmental sustainability while promoting economic development.
